Dec. 24, 2004 -Late: The home experience will be in it's own story and picture page.  It should be from today until late January.  Check it here.

Dec 24, 2004: Was supposed to work today, but instead I'm on a plane headed home.  I almost feel bad about missing the next week of school, well not really.  Let me explain a bit for the unkoreanated. The school year typically starts in late February or early March and ends, well the ends is the problem.  For 3rd year students (like western Seniors) the year unofficially ends in mid November after they take the Suneung (Korean SAT that determines their entire future and is all they care about the last 2 years of school). Their classes after the test consist of sleeping, Playstation, and leaving at noon. For the rest of the students, the now free schoolmates provide a mighty distraction.

The rest of the students take their finals sometime in early December.  Now to my western trained mind, finals means the end.  Even here in Korea, finals mean the last grade given and within a few days of the tests the teachers have the grades finished and turned in.  I had all my grades in by the 17th.

Logically (haha, logic) you would expect the end of classes sometime near the end of grading and definitely near the end of the final test. Well logic indeed does not apply here in the RoK.  School continues until New Years Day when they break for winter vacation.  That's vacation, not the end of school mind you.  School has a...final...week sometime in February. I say sometime in February since it still hasn't been set as of the 24th. (This lack of scheduling is a Korean norm and a constant source of bewilderment for me as even a school system and messed up as OKC's can schedule several years in advance) Even Daewon had this wackiness if you care to look back at my first week in Korea.

So, here I am, leaving a week before the vacation and planning on returning in mid February. I may or may not catch that week of classes and I may, or may not, care. (oh ya, the time after finals is usually dedicated to movies and TV shows as there is little, read no, motivation for the students to participate and no recourse for the teachers when the don't)

Dec 20, 2004: 11 more days pass with nary a word.  My keyword hinting worked well, too well.  I see some serious flaws with the way google targets for the page. It really doesn't take the whole page into consideration.  Let me test again with something less ad-worthy and see what gets dredged up (altho the forex/exchange ads were fairly profitable...thanks goes to those that took a look)

As many of you know, I really like Dragon Ball Z. DBZ has been a favorite of mine for some time. Cartoon Network and Toonami introduced me to Dragon Ball Z  and Dragon Ball 5 or 6 years ago.

I had always liked dragons, even before the anime that had a small link to them. I think I can thank Jayson for some of that too since he corrupted me with that very first red book...DnD's player manual (the first really ready for prime time one before AD&D).  I think my first dragon in that game was a small green one.  I can remember those afternoons very vividly even though they are a lifetime away now.

Anyway, Dragon's are cool...cool enough for me to spend 5 hours getting one inked on my leg. Dragon Ball Z is cool. Cool enough for me to spend tons on all the toys (an investment I tell ya!) And today, cool enough to be my test subject.

Dec. 9, 2004: So it seems, as usual, I have done very little on the pages.  School has been way too busy this semester and the open weeks have never been open. Not bitchin', just wanna let you know why I haven't been writing.  I'd wager I won't get much done over the vacation as well since my net access will be severely limited and time will likely be at a premium as well.

Interesting how the google ads changed from self help to marathons with one post about Jayson's NYC Race.  Let's see if I can change it again....

Currency exchange and exchange rates. I have been following the rapidly nosediving US Dollar versus the Korean Won. The exchange rate for most of my 2 years here has been in the 1150-1200 range. The exchange rate right now (www.xe.com/ucc) is about 1050.  When exchanging several million won, that adds up fast.  I've basically gotten a raise.  Of course if I need to exchange dollars for won, it'll hurt. Luckily I only need to buy dollars and sell won right now.

Hmm, wonder what word I plugged....
