January 1, 2004:  The new year begins on a road trip to Vegas with Julie and Robert.  We hit the trail a couple of days earlier and ended up in Taos, New Mexico.  (Since this is being written a year and a half after the fact, I'll just put up some pics and a few remarks....better than the nothing I've been doing about it till now)

Januaray 3rd, 2005: We spent the night in Flagstaff, in preparation for a busy day today.  The big surprise was the huge snow storm that blew in at about 7 AM.  it was amazing.  Within hours the roads were near impassable but we bravely forged ahead while still being concerned that we'd have to skip our target for today: The Grand Canyon. 

  When we reached the turnoff to go up to TGC, we stopped at a Ranger station to see if we'd make it.  As one of the top tourist destinations, the highway gets some speedy winter maintenance. The plows ha already done their thing twice that morning and the road north was safer than the interstate we'd braved to that point.  The trek was well worth it.  Grand doesn't do this canyon justice.  The colors, the size, the everything. Wow.  No camera could ever get the scale either, you really must go if you haven't.
