July 16, 2004: Alrighty, here's the scoop. Ended up with very little free time at work this week so I wrote basically nothing. My home PC's got hit with some sort of worm/virus/trojan thing so I spent far too long trying to fix them the past 2 nights as well. It was nasty. It shutdown the firewall, disabled the anti-virus, and killed any webpage that went to a fix as well as the fixes I already had. All clean now, but I still can't load a new window from a link and some pages just hang. Annoying. In the morning I fly out to the good ol' US of A so for the next month, if I write anything at all, I'll write it on the board. It's easier when traveling than doing the pages. I'll be home till the 26th, Europe till the 14th then home again till the 20th or so. Drop me a note and we'll hook up if our paths can cross. Like to travel? Like to write? Try this beta site.
July 14, 2004: Happy Birthday Ma! July 12, 2004: I'll write some stuff tomorrow. Maybe. Possibly. Jayson and Tulay headed off to China Friday, hope they are enjoying themselves, although they really should have caught a weekend here in rainy RoK. July 4, 2004: For some reason Korea doesn't celebrate the Fourth of July...I think they should...blowing stuff up is fun and so is grilling some good ol' USDA ground beef...prions and all! Watch Jayson.net for the next few days as he's here soaking in the sites and smells of Korea. It seems the quotes were ok, but of course they still got people all pissy because they were told by someone else to be pissy. After other teachers went through the message (which I can't link to since it requires a login) and translated and explained, most kids were pleased with what I had written (and had been copied). I write basically 2 things here. One is my experiences and the other is my reactions to said experiences. It's rare for me to go out of my way to attack something or someone. So please don't get angry until you are sure you understand. If you do that and still want to get riled up, knock yourself out! I have taken a few shots at the union teachers, but that was only after dealing with their crap for the better part of 2 months...they can bite me. I still say this even after today's nasty rumor that the principal may be out. If he is gone, I hope the school gets the biggest meanest biatch to take his place. I can think of a few people from the States for that job...they think this guy is mean, they have no clue (I could see my Mom in that spot telling all of them to vamoose or my Grandfather just tossin' them out on their protesting hineys). If the union gets its way I will have lost all faith in the Korean system....law, education, government...all of it. If the union prevails it will just be one more bit of proof as to why Korea is called a "developing" nation and not a "developed" one. The law sometimes sucks, but it is the law. You change it, follow it or face the consequences but crying until you get your way is just plain sad.
July 3, 2004: It appears I'm being quoted on the Union board. I have no idea if I'm being quoted correctly or not. I can tell that they are quoting my writing and the writing of the users of my board and all the quotes are lumped together...I'll get some help and see how it plays. Again, to quote this page you should document it properly and ask permission...at the very least let me know. To the Red Vests and Black Shirts: Never forget, you chose to disregard the foreign staff. You chose to alienate us. You chose to leave us with no information. YOU chose for us (at least some of us) to be your enemy. If we had known ANYTHING about your story we may have helped you. I can only speak for myself on this part, but I hope you get what you deserve. I also hope that when these kids realize how bad you screwed up their college chances they come to get what they deserve. I have little to lose in speaking my mind, what can you afford to lose? Oh, and any other updates are gonna be slow in coming. Jayson gets here tomorrow and I have a ton of paper work to complete to finish out the semester and then I go home for a bit...we'll see what happens.
