Ok, I quit writing sometime in, oh, July of 2002. So how to I catch up? Write like I did it at the time or just to a fast and dirty wrap up of 2002 allowing future experiences to influence what I write. Tough choice, but I think I'll just put as much as I can down and maybe fix it up later.

Sound like a plan? Good, I thought so.

So...July, 2002...World Cup is over, Korea's nationalism is probably at an all time high, everyone is pissed at the US because 2 girls don't know how to get out of the way of a tank and I have a month off.

The summer starts pretty well. Sam's Mom was here for a bit as was his brother. Sam goes back to the US leaving me the house to myself, my relationship with Julie is in that fun and exciting first few months, and overall life just seems to be going well. I forgo traveling the first part of the summer because I have a new girlfriend, the previously mentioned Julie, and I have tickets back to Okieville at the end of the month.

Most of July is spent just hanging out and doing the dating thing. The rules of dating a Korean girl have a steep learning curve. A year later the rules still give me trouble. I'm going to skip the sordid details and move on to the end of the month.

Let's try a random picture gallery to catch up a bit.

Friday July 26, 2002 Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction

This totally freaked out the Korean's. Rainbows are very rare here.

Today I caught The Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction at Jamsil Sports complex with John, Dawn, and Dan. Billed as "One Fine Day" with RHCP, the concert was a day long festival with 3 Korean rock bands followed by Jane's then RHCP. The Korean bands were so so, the ones we saw at least since we got there late to avoid the Korean bands...By the time Jane's came out the crowd had grown to an unimpressive 5 or 6 thousand. I always liked 3rd base better....
Janes was pretty good. Perry was lit up on who knows what but still managed to get the songs pretty much right. He actually got better as the show went on, probably as he worked out whatever was coursing through his system. I don't think the Korean's knew Jane's very well cause they didn't seem overly interested.
RHCP was excellent. They were using the concert as a tune up for their upcoming tour and played a couple of songs live for the first time which was cool. Even though the crowd was small they seemed genuinely excited to be playing. It was nice to see that from a band that has been around so long...maybe that's why they have been.... Military class flare that a fan had...security was not amused

Sunday July 28 2002. As I mentioned above, I had a return ticket to Oklahoma so I took a quick trip back. The trip itself took 7 extra hours since the plane from Japan wasn't air worthy (this is found out after boarding an hour late and then sitting for an hour). Any delay of more than 2 hours means I also miss all flights to OKC from Minneapolis. But that's no worry today since there are no more flights to Minneapolis either. So I get to fly to lovely LAX then on to Memphis then back track to Oklahoma. Fun fun. Somehow I still get into OKC at 10:30pm.

I remember very little of the time at home. It must have been fairly uneventful...Mexican food, Chinese food and maybe some Shiner Bock...

August 2, 2002.  I return to Korea...was this the time I had to go via Seattle?  I don't recall. If it was it was a long day and a huge pain in the butt.

Sunday August 4, 2002. My grandmother (bio-father's Mom) Nina & my cousin Kevin come to visit.  Quite the surprise really.  I mentioned it a few months earlier and they went for it.  Nina is pretty cool like that.  I think I like to travel because of her and Clovis.  They would take me with them in their motor home sometimes and it was always cool.  But that's long ago and this is for recent stuff!

I had a good time with them, and I think they had a good time as well.  Saw some sites, played like tourists, and had some family here for my birthday.  It rained most of the time they were here unfortunately, but such is Korea in August.  On the 10th after we had pretty much worn Nina out, (she's a trooper though) JJ and I took Kevin out to Hongdae.  A good time was had by all.  They bid us adieu on the 12th.

Ooh looky, another picture gallery!

Sadly I returned to work on the 19 of August.  Happily it was only for 2 days! JJ suggested we go to Vietnam to meet his chickie and hang out.  I was more than happy to oblige.
