September 01, 2002: The rainy season is still in full effect and the Han is a pretty hefty river now. I took some pics from Technomart.

September 02, 2002:  Today I got pissed.  Kim Satan (AKA Vice Principal Kim) popped into my class today and began berating some students over a cracker.  Normally I'm the only cracker, but this time it was a pack of Ivy's he spied through the window.  After yelling at them and disrupting my class in the most professional manner he turns to me. We step into the hall and he lets loose about how Korean's don't eat in class and that I'm disrespecting the school by having food in my classroom.  I find this amusing except for the fact he's yelling at me like I should care and I can't quit staring at his huge mole (Think Austin Powers).  It is funny because you can walk down the hall and see food and drink in every room. Not to mention that the kids eat 2 meals a day in the classroom as well. He never sees this I guess. I'm just lucky I  happen to have the class right by the teacher's restroom and he happens to see me twice a week after his 2nd hour dump.

Well after his tirade ends, and I say "umm, didn't know, but why did you disrupt my class? and why did you treat me like this in front of my students?" He gets an all new look in his eye. Oh ya, I'm on his list now. Did I happen to mention that he has the brightest blue velour suit?  ya...I care about his list. (mmm, sarcasm)

September 14, 2002:  Went to the Grand Hyatt tonight for a buffet dinner. A bunch of us gathered to honor, celebrate, mark...whatever it was...Daven and Fish's wedding over the summer.  The buffet was good. The buffet was expensive. The buffet was impressive. I ate too much. Life was good.

September 15, 2002: Today was an interesting day. It was a typical lazy day but one where I had finally grown irritated enough about a situation do take action.  My bed was too damn small.  I hadn't slept on a super-single since I was at OBU and by god I was getting tired of it.

I decided to get pro-active about it. I grabbed Julie and made her go for a walk over to Gunja where there are a lot of furniture places. The trip over provided some rare excitement, but I'll finish the bed story first. we shop around and haggle for a while, finding ever-increasing prices and a odd resistance to the full-sized mattress.  The very first shop ended up having the best price, a decent mattress, and were able to deliver that day.  It is another oddity here in Korea where you don't always find something last place you, but often the first.

On the way over, I noticed a red foot print on the ground.Seoul-09-15-02-059.jpg (1143921 bytes) Then I see another.Seoul-09-15-02-060.jpg (1147037 bytes)

Very unusual wouldn't you agree? It got better! Of course I was thinking this was just some protest art or some other wacky Korean thing, but the kicker followed.

Seoul-09-15-02-055.jpg (36675 bytes) Whoa! Full body outline.  Not just on TV, even here on a Korean sidewalk. About this time your stomach feels strange as you try to decide if this is really cool or kinda sick.  Since Julie and I are sitll not able to decide, we get Sam to join us as we know which way his vote will go.

Upon further investigation I find the outline of a delivery scooter (I guess it died too).  You can tell it was a delivery scooter by the box shape on the backend...most likely pizza by the curve and size, but not Dominos since the front of the bike doesn't have the same shape as the Dominos standard. Since we obviously watch too much CSI, I go about recreating the final moments of our hapless delivery dude in full slo-mo and with sound effects.

His left foot only prints and splatter pattern allowed for some fairly accurate recreation.  The poor dudeSeoul-09-15-02-057.jpg (34369 bytes) obviously got hit hard and really launched off the bike.   He made his way back towards the bike before using the tree to support him, then collapsing to the ground soon thereafter.   I couldn't quite get the way he finally fell from the outline, so I persuaded our favorite crash test dummy to model....  (I couldn't believe he did it either!)

September 20, 2002:  Spent the day at Tttukseom Resort.  It's not really a resort, it's more of an over used park on the bank of the Han.  Parks in Seoul are either on a mountain or on the edge of one of the many rivers.  Very few have much grass and even fewer are all that fun.  Ttukseom's strong points are proximity, a subway stop, and for Daven, concrete basketball courts and many players. TR also has a nice flower garden. Well it is nice if you get there before all the Korean's get there and screw it up. (I've been to many pretty places here where they will jump or break a fence so they can go take a picture or cut the flowers...and that's the adults. Add in the little devils and nothing stays pretty for long)

September 26, 2002: Two wholly unrelated pictures for today.

Seoul-09-02 082 (Small).jpg (27314 bytes)Yong Duk and Denny.
A couple of kids I teach in the evenings. They are different as night and day but get along really well.

Samsonlynookie.jpg (37354 bytes)This one is as scary as it looks.  Sam got really drunk (what Sam? no! Say it isn't true!) and had some cash in his pocket...where some that are hard up for some personal touch would buy a fleeting moment, Sam buys a bike.  I think we see from where his nookie problem springs.  He sent out a really funny e-mail about it too (seemed like he bought the aforementioned "moment" but ended with this picture.) I'll see if I can get a copy.  The photoshopped replies were even more amusing.
